Milton Keynes Council were awarded funding to increase the security of a number of town centre locations where bicycle theft had been an issue including the Midsummer place shopping centre, bus station and Library.

BSFG worked alongside the Council who opted to install 87 Streetpods across the town. The patented Streetpod design delivers maximum bike storage security in public spaces. The units are sold secure diamond-rated – the highest level of bicycle security available in the UK. They are resistant to prolonged attacks and as such are recommended by UK police.

Each pod can hold two bikes in a ’high-low’ design to avoid handlebar clashes. There is space for the front wheel to fit neatly into a secure shell made from recyclable materials and a ring of reinforced solid steel to secure the rear wheel and frame, using the cyclist’s own D-lock.

Milton Keynes has been actively working to make every part of the town accessible by bike and with the increased popularity of E-bikes and expensive bikes it is imperative to offer cyclist the highest level of security to encourage bicycle use and as such contribute to a cleaner, greener, healthier and more sustainable town centre.

Cllr Jenny Wilson-Marklew, Cabinet Member responsible for Climate Action and Sustainability said: “We’re introducing these new Streetpods to give local people more confidence in city centre bike security, and to encourage more people to choose two wheels more often as a way of cutting their carbon footprint. We’ll monitor their demand and keep working with partners to crack down on bike theft.”
