At Jaguar Land Rover, the existing employee bike storage was outdated, oversubscribed and becoming a hassle to maintain. Only 70 bike spaces were available using wide metal stands which meant that at least 2 locks would be required to lock both the frame and on wheel of the bike. Due to the high number of employees that cycled to work at the factory, the number of spaces needed to improve drastically to accommodate everyone. BSFG visited site and drew up a new plan for storage using our Easylift+ two-tier system and double height Brighton shelters to make the most of the space available.
The factory site itself was secure so no gated enclosure was necessary, the entrance to the compound was fenced off so that we could install all the way down the side, and a new entrance was made. The installation of the new storage had to co-ordinate with the removal of the existing storage as efficiently as possible to ensure that there was minimum disruption to the factory and the employees.
Jaguar specified a particular week that would work best due to an annual factory shutdown, so BSFG had to ensure the site was cleared and new storage completely installed during this week. We maintained contact with the client both through our Installation Team on site and via. our office so that all parties were made aware of progress for peace of mind!
We installed 196 new bike spaces, almost triple the amount available before, and powder coated both the Easylift and shelters to a bespoke colour. Our Easylift+ is the only two-tier bike storage solution whose upper arm reaches all the way to the floor and is equipped with a gas-assisted lift. This make it as user-friendly as possible as users do not have to lift the full weight of the bike onto the arm, they can then lock their bike frame and wheel using the security loops on the frame of the Easylift+.
With minimum effort required from the user to lightly pull the upper arm off the floor, the gas-assist does the rest of the work and the upper arm lifts up on its own and is pushed gently back into place. Having been tested over 18,000 times, the Easylift+ is also proved to be a high quality product with a long performance lifespan. Each testing represents a loading and unloading of a bike so this testing roughly equates to it being used 4 times a day for 12 years without any deterioration in the product!
We also installed a Bike Repair Stand and Public Bike Pump in the enclosure so users storing their bikes also had access to tools for basic bike repairs. During the installation we received great feedback about our installation team from the Jaguar site contact – ‘Lads are working really well, their conduct, professionalism and attitude is a credit to you.’- after they had managed to install all 9 shelters in one day!
This site transformation is a brilliant example of the difference that can be made in both ease of use and aesthetic bike storage by ensuring your bike facilities are up to date and of a good quality.
